Curious readings for July 19th and 20th 2004


Ok these images are confusing. Without having a hurricane in the area I am at a loss to understand why these temperatures have crashed by such a large number of degrees. In the image for july 20th 2004 water temps in some areas approached 73 degrees in the tropics where the temps should be around 83 degrees.

Sorry the pictures are reversed. The top pic is the 20th and the bottom one is the 19th. The only thing I can think of is that area follows the path of the Atlantic current and it is diving farther below the surface and forcing colder water to the surface.
