China says troops rush to plug dangerous cracks in dam

China says quake toll could rise above 50,000

The Communist Party leadership told officials to "ensure social stability" in rescue efforts, as the quake spawned rumors of chemical spills, fears of dam bursts and scenes of collective desperation.

I'm thinking it will be double that. A 7.9 is a powerful quake and that country is heavily populated. They are going to have to rebuild some of those towns and cities. They were leveled.

also there are still a lot of 4.x and even 5.x's in the area.

Plan for quake 'warning system'

Nasa scientists have said they could be on the verge of a
breakthrough in their efforts to forecast earthquakes.
Researchers say they have found a close link between electrical
disturbances on the edge of our atmosphere and impending quakes on
the ground below.
Just such a signal was spotted in the days leading up to the recent
devastating event in China.
They have teamed up with experts in the UK to investigate a possible
space-based early warning system.
