Strong Quake Strikes Nears Fiji Islands

Quote From Source:
HONG KONG -- A strong earthquake struck off Fiji Islands in the South Pacific on Sunday, Hong Kong seismologists said.

It was not immediately clear if the tremor caused any casualties or damages.

The magnitude-6.5 quake struck at 11:20 a.m. Sunday, and the epicenter was located about 390 miles southwest of the Fijian capital of Suva, the Hong Kong Observatory said in a brief statement.

The U.S. Geological Survey also reported the magnitude at 6.5.

Fiji is regularly hit by earthquakes as its 332 islands -- about 110 of which are inhabited -- sit in an active seismic area in the South.
