Global Warming: Beyond the Tipping Point

Quote From Source:
The basic proposition behind the science of climate change is so firmly rooted in the laws of physics that no reasonable person can dispute it. All other things being equal, adding carbon dioxide (CO2) to the atmosphere—by, for example, burning millions of tons of oil, coal and natural gas—will make it warm up. That, as the Nobel Prize–winning chemist Svante Arrhenius first explained in 1896, is because CO2 is relatively transparent to visible light from the sun, which heats the planet during the day. But it is relatively opaque to infrared, which the earth tries to reradiate back into space at night. If the planet were a featureless, monochromatic billiard ball without mountains, oceans, vegetation and polar ice caps, a steadily rising concentration of CO2 would mean a steadily warming earth. Period.

I found this to be very intresting.

You know the expression, "Don't quit your day job?" Well what do you say to
people that work nights?

Why would anyone quote Hansen unless it was for profit. I'm sorry but the guy is a fear mongering idiot. Him recirculating material is nothing more than a desperate attempt to save his career and reputation. For a growing number of people the idea of AGW is becoming a joke. He won't go down quietly tough. He is going to ride the HMS Global Warming Titanic all the way to the bottom of the ocean. Just like any skipper of a sinking ship.

All 100% true. What they do NOT say is that the temperature increase for doubling CO2 (just by itself) is only .6C according to Arrhenius. The entire argument come from the allegedly positive feedbacks of other gasses. Does water vapor increase? If so, how much? How much additional effect does it have? Etc. Etc. Etc.

The physics is very clear. Doubling CO2 concentration produces .6C of warming. However, actual observational evidence from AQUA satellite (google it and see for yourself) reveals that the additional water vapor actually forms at a level that forms clouds and cools the planet. So the net result of doubling CO2 is something less than .6C when other feedbacks are considered.

And that is what the fight is all about. Not whether or not we deny that CO2 is a greenhouse gas. That is a Strawman argument.

I recommend anyone who wants to get an insight into the thinking of a typical AGW alarmist skim the messages on alt.global-warming.

Typical responses to "skeptics/deniers" posting about the recent studies in climate science (ie, the Sun's the culprit) or anything else that doesn't fit their idea of CO2 global warming is, "you're a liar", "republican idiot", "the science is settled". There is some talk no and again around the greenhouse gas equations, but when anyone brings anything up that doesn't support "Cars+Coal=DOOM" they are usually accused of being a liar or their supporting claim is denied as being irrelevant. There are posts about the suns influence, and the only comments will be along the lines of "solar irradiance cannot explain the warming".

Not most discussion on the usenet isn't, but the number of posts by alarmists is being overrun by skeptics and spam.

I don't waste my time with that crap. I prefer to learn more about the sun and ocean influences. That's much more productive.

They should take the warning labels off of everything and let stupidity sort itself out.

It's actually fairly entertaining. It helped me realize their arguments are not arguments at all but rather helpless flailing.

I do agree though. Focusing on understanding the actual cause does more good than reading rhetoric from babbling idiots.
