I get your drift.
But his postings are still there in your forum.Begging to be answered.
To show that there is a lot more to consider than what he is showing.
The red portion I posted to you was to point out that in all of his postings in this thread. He never showed why we should be so worried about the melting rate. How it relates to the climate as a whole. And that somehow will generate that mythical "tipping point" never observed in the last Billion years.
With little ice cover over the arctic ocean. The heat will escape more rapidly and the waters cool down a little.Plus more surface area for CO2 to be readily absorbed.
Inconvenient thoughts needs to be posted ya know. |

Supposedly to show that a "tipping point" has been reached?
The ice is already floating in the water. So it could not be sea levels being raised.
With a now wide open ocean.Increased evaporation and snowfall deposition is more probable. |

How about increased evaporation rate.
Increased snowfall.
Increased absorption of CO2.
Increased heat release from the waters.

I've read several books this year about these issues. Right now, I'm forgetting which book (Svensmark's? Singer's?) made the point that the poles will trend warmer when the rest of the world is trending cooler, and vice versa.
I need to find that passage again....
Robert Felix says it's [electro]magnetic effects that are causing what we are and will be seeing. I think we will decide ultimately that electromagnetic influences from both the sun and other planets/galaxies are at the bottom of these so-called anomalies. |

I read Svensmark's book and yeah he found that when the southern pole is colder than normal, the northern pole is warmer than normal. I don't have my book in front of me though...

=instant ice age. (ok not instant but I'd give it 5 years max after 2012).
That's my uneducated guess.

It sure looks like the turn has been made. It appears to be in advance of 2007 and possibly even ahead of the 5 years prior to 2008.

I think it is very safe to say we are extremely close to, if not at, minimm ice. 2008 is 400K+ km^2 above 2007.... |

Here is a case of CNN running an alarmist story with no basis.
| Quote From Source: | Data showing Arctic sea ice may reach its lowest level on record this summer underscores the need for governments to speed up talks on a new climate pact, the Worldwide Fund for Nature said Monday.
The WWF said observations on ice coverage and thickness pointed toward a record low for the second year in a row, continuing a "catastrophic" trend that could threaten polar wildlife and accelerate global warming.

This must be the WWF's way of begging for money. Honestly a pathetic story. The data indicates that the ice has made a great recovery from last year and this data only goes back to 1979 or so. Also if you read other reports the evidence suggests that this isn't the first time the ice has been in this condition.
Arctic sea ice is recovering nicely and Antarctic sea ice is in great shape. In fact it was near record maximum levels. Doesn't look like there is a problem to me.
But hey the WWF needs money. They survive by leading you to believe there is a crisis. No crisis.. no money.

For those interested, I have gotten the temperature maps straightened out on my site, and have generated a user name and password for the use of friends here and ski lodge owners / operators, and general highway maint crews.

Looks colder and not quite as snowy as last year, but check your own area for your self..
This will allow you to look at maps up to the end of March 2009.

I sure do hope it's cold and dry here. I don't want a drought next summer, but I love camping in dry cold weather. I get the woods to my self that way |

It makes sense it'd be up from last year. I don't know about sea ice extent, but in all things I've study that follow cycles, things usually trend upward from extreme lows.
You couldn't tell there's any cooling here in the Seattle area. We've had the nicest summer in years, plenty of 90+ days. It's been 80 ish and clear lately. |

Not only did the sea ice extent not set a record (minimum) this year it is also recovering faster than last year.
