Tropical storm strengthens near Carolinas

Satellite image taken at 1:15 p.m. Saturday shows Tropical Storm Cristobal off the coast of the Carolinas.
The center of the storm was expected to move along the South and North Carolina coasts later Saturday and Sunday, dumping up to 5 inches of rain, forecasters said.
A tropical storm warning -- meaning that tropical storm conditions with maximum winds of 39 mph are expected within the next 24 hours -- was issued for an area from South Santee River, South Carolina, to the North Carolina-Virginia border.
