Winds sustained over 30 with gusts over 60. Or as the NHC would call it... hurricane conditions :D

Here is an entry into the wall of shame.

Valero
3624 S Keystone Ave
Indianapolis, IN 46227

Their nomination is for shameless price gouging after hurricane Ike.

I was back out just a little bit ago and they brought their price down to $4.15 to match the Speedway across the street since the other station wouldn't match them at the much higher price.

I will never give Valero another dime. This is proof those jerks had price gouging in mind.

Ike brought tropical storm conditions to Cincinnati on Sunday. Winds were sustained for a time at 45mph and gusts were recorded as high as 74 mph. I guess there was some damage at the airport. Nothing major though.

These winds are highly unusual here. I know the 63mph wind gust in Indianapolis Sunday was a rarity. I don't remember ever hitting a wind that strong outside of a severe thunderstorm or the blizzard of 1978.

It's been unusually windy for a while now and lastnight we lost power for a few hours. I heard and saw about 15 transformers blow up lastnight around 2AM.

News channel later that morning said it was due to Hurricane Ike putting too much salt/water in the air causing it to corrode the power companies equipment. It was a sight to see though.

300 people still missing since Ike hit Texas

Quote From Source:
(CNN) -- Alligators loom over submerged cars. Mountains of debris are embedded in the ground. The bodies of cows, trucks and the remnants of homes lie in and out of the water. And unverified sightings of missing loved ones make the rounds.
Traci Turner says she hasn't heard from her sister Danielle Chapman or her two nephews since the storm.

Traci Turner says she hasn't heard from her sister Danielle Chapman or her two nephews since the storm.

More than 300 people are missing since Hurricane Ike hit the Texas coast last month, and the obstacles to finding them are frustrating family and friends who desperately want to know if their loved ones are dead or alive.

These family and friends want answers: Why are so many still missing? Why has the first organized search for bodies, to be held Thursday on the battered Bolivar Peninsula, taken so long?

Texas floats plan to house Ike victims aboard ship

Quote From Source:
HOUSTON (AP) - An aging cruise ship could become temporary housing for Hurricane Ike refugees if Texas officials can navigate through the federal government's paperwork.

Federal Emergency Management Agency officials said they had not received a formal request for funds to use the ship and that a state agency's e-mail to a FEMA administrator did not follow protocol for making such a request.

Simon Chabel, a spokesman in FEMA's joint field office in Austin, said the request must go through the state's department of emergency management and be made on a specific form.

"This process exists so we can ensure that the state is speaking with one voice when they asked us for things," Chabel said.

3,000 displaced victims....

Ok if you build your house on a volcano and it blows and takes your house..are you a victim. Again...if you build on a beach, coastline or near a lake or river and it floods and takes your house, are you a victim?

Or perhaps it was a poor decision and a lack of planning. If that is what you want to do and you can afford it, by all means knock yourself out, but I don't think they are victims.

To me, a victim is somebody that gets harmed, hurt, or who's life was changed due to no fault of their own. Building your house on a beach is avoidable and is your own fault.
