What do yall think?

I was watching the news last night scanning the channels looking for info about Frances...And to my dismay...nothing. Not a word. I mentioned to Indy earlier that Charley might have been the boy that cried wolf. Everyone ignored it becuase is was no more then a tropical depression..then suddenly things turned for the worst. The weather channel was doing a news clip on forest fires last night in Colorado....WTF was that? Frances is bearing down on a state that already got smacked around by Charley.

I got a bad feeling about Frances. Seems as though very few share my feelings. Look at the data posted. This has the serious makings of 160+ winds. If I lived in Florida I would spend the day packing and making reservations in Billings Montana. I would want to get as far away from this thing as I could. By the time they get alerted it will be to late. Structures weakened by Charley are gonna come down. I wouldnt want to be in a 1000000 car bumper to bumper situation trying to leave the state. I'd leave now. There is still plenty of time to get out safe and in a timely orderly fashon. I hope it does peter out....but i don't think it will. I hope it swerves way up north and leaves Florida alone...I don't think it will. Only time will tell. I figure they got until Friday.

Want to talk about a scenario worse than hitting a heavily populated space coast of Florida? Latest model run has it going to the worst possible place. Jacksonville. Jacksonville is a major city but it is also an extremely low laying city. A category storm would wipe it out pretty much. I cannot even imagine the damage estimates from a direct strike on it.

I live in Jacksonville.

And I am beginning to get concerned about this one.

Frances is tracking just like Floyd....and it was impossible to evacuate the last time around...we ended up returning home and thanking God that Floyd veered away during the night.

I think I might head to Lowes today for plywood.

Hey... welcome aboard. I have family in Melbourne and Merritt Island and friends in Jacksonville. It is certainly an interesting time for them. That whole region is really over due. Erin was the last storm to his anywhere close and that was in Vero Beach. That was barely a hurricane.

If memory serves me correct Jacksonville is very low laying I am correct? I remember taking the long causeway out west toward I-10 I think. I remember it being very long and very low.

The thing that concerns me about a city like Jax is that a hurricane is so rare that the buildings may not be exactly up to standard. Would we be looking at another Homestead after Andrew?

BTW.. I hope you have a digital camera :D
