We're finally normal here (highs in the upper 40s, lows in the mid 30s). I was getting sick of waking up and it being 15 degrees. Olympia WA was 8 degrees at the lowest. |

Incredible picture someone took. It is of the current sunspot. They used only a camera. No special filters.

According to http://www.spaceweather.com the photographer used a Canon 450D.

I wonder why it's completely dark around the sun?
"The rain it raineth every day, and every night also -- week in and week out, from the rising of the sun to the going down of the same, there is nothing but rain, rain, rain, 'The windows of heaven are opened up.' Pluvius, grieved at some earth-giving wrong, weeps as if he never would dry up." - Overland Press (Olympia, WA), December 1861 |

The solar activity had picked up quite a bit in the last couple of months or so. Despite that we have yet to hit a monthly sunspot number of 20. Now the sun is starting to quiet down again. We've had a couple of spotless days in a row and the average solar flux has started to decline as well. I am sure this is temporary but it serves up a little proof that the climb out of the deep solar minimum will be slow.
