Oil reaches $100 per barrel

Quote From Source:
NEW YORK - Crude oil prices soared to $100 a barrel Wednesday for the first time, reaching that milestone amid an unshakeable view that global demand for oil and petroleum products will outstrip supplies.

My oil tracker goes to $150. That is the mark I think basically screws the "American way of life." Anything beyond that is overkill.

I'm thinking about getting a bicycle motor. I've seen claims of 150-250 mpg depending on the bike, terrain, rider, and speed. I'm not sure if those figures included non-use times (like killing it to go down hill or on flat terrain), but if not, that could be some good mileage. I'm not sure I'll ride it to work, even though I only live 4 miles away, but I might ride it to the store, or to toodle around, and for exercise. If prices keep rising, our economy won't be able to handle it. I can't see it. We already have problems w/ a large chunk of the nation who can barely (or can't) afford to eat or stay warm, rising fuel costs mean rising everything costs. Too much more for gas, and I can't see anything short of a recession.

well, I'm buying a bike(MC) soon.
mid-size, that way I'll get a good 50 mpg outa it, and 30 from my
car. guess I'll be better than most, but theres NO WAY I'll be able
to do the job I have now at 5 bucks a gallon...

oh well.

Nobody will, at 5 bucks a gallon, the costs will soar so high I think you'd see full on recession in 2 months (of sustained $5+ per gallon gas)

I'm thinking bicycle motor because this place has a good infrastructure for bicycle riders. I'd probably get in trouble for using a motor if I was riding on trails though, and there's some great Bicycle trails connecting the Seattle area. It rains so much I wouldn't want to rely on a motorcycle. A friend of mine died earlier this year when he couldn't stop in time during a heavy rain and slammed into a car. I know he probably driving too close, but rain is not good when you're riding a motorcycle.

for the majority of life, I owned a bike, sometimes two, hell, even three. buuuut, the combination of not having riden for a few years and living in SW FL (ie OLD drivers) means no sport bike for me... just a mid size crusier.

besides - they're chick magnets

The bike motor would probably be mostly for camping, to toodle the hills around w/o spending an arm and a leg in gas, maybe overnight camp off of an old logging road. There's a couple places like that around here, where the forest service closed off old logging roads to be used as bike trails.

Oil sets fresh record above $100

Quote From Source:
Oil prices have doubled from $50 a barrel in January 2007

Oil prices have set a fresh record high of $100.05 a barrel in New York.

Light sweet crude rose after Energy Information Administration (EIA) figures showed the lowest weekly US stockpile levels since January 2005.

Indonesia's Opec representative earlier warned that oil prices could climb as high as $110 a barrel and said the producers' cartel might raise supply.

I'm surprised gas is still only ~$3 per gallon. I've expected $4 or even $5 to come sooner or later.

One guy traded 1000 barrels for 100.05 then sold for a 600.00 loss to be the first person to trade 100.00 for oil. He did it on purpose ...for the bragging rights.

I belive the reason the IPCC and the governments are hell bent on pushing global is because of oil. We are running out. Cooling or not, a fuel shortage will destroy global economy. It gives them a reason to increase taxes, tell us what to do.

I need to read State of Fear, I have a copy, but haven't read it.

I don't know what the problem is. We are going to run out of oil before too long and any "problem" we may have created will go away.
