Fuel prices sink plans of boaters
| Quote From Source: | Howard Gendron stopped driving his 28-foot cabin cruiser on Rhode Island's Narragansett Bay two years ago because gas prices were up and his waterborne gas hog sent his fuel costs "out of sight," he says.
But the mechanic had to satisfy his love of water, he says, so he bought a 21-foot Sea Ray with better mileage. "We downsized," says Gendron, 44, of Warwick, R.I.
Even so, the smaller boat was no match for recent gas prices. "We're not even putting it in this year because of the cost of fuel," he says.

I'm afraid this industry is in serious trouble. Boats get horrible MPG. And getting gas at the local dock will cost you about 10.00 a gallon. Talk about a $380.00 fill up for 1 day of running around. And that is a 18 ft boat with a 150hp.
They should take the warning labels off of everything and let stupidity sort itself out.

Chris-Craft opened a brandy-new facility here in my hometown just a few years ago. Unsurprisingly, they are not doing well, as sales are, well, kinda slow.
Indian Motorcycle also moved to town at the same time (same owners). I expect them to do much better. |
