Dems say no to off shore drilling
So once again, dems refuse to help the american public by denying off shore drilling and exploration.

this was completely a political play. all dems voting voted it down...all republicans voted to pass it. meanwhile, the american public suffers...because of their grown up pissing contest. the fault falls on both sides. they run this country like little children. those kids who ran that town in new mexico for that reality tv show could do a better job. we give the burma government a lot of crap for how they have handled the clean up/aid effort for their country...but our politicians rnt much different. we also have al gore trying to brainwash them all which doesnt help much either.
some thoughts and questions though come to mind with this beyond my rants.
one, is this just the dems waiting until they get a dem in the white house so they can take credit for helping ease the gas price problem? will this bill show back up when obama is president and be proposed by dems?
two, how hard would this be for the US gov to keep it closed to the oil companies and start pumping it out and refining it ourselves? then flooding the market with cheap oil. if the gov could do this, it would really help balance the budget. run it like we and when i say we, i mean the US gov., runs the mail system. we allow other companies to operate but also have the US gov price cheaper.
and last but not least building on the last thoughts, at what oil is today, how many barrels would we need to cover the currency we have in circulation in the US? all currencies taken off the gold standard eventually end up at zero value. i truly think we need to get back to having something back our currency. i know we cant ever do that with gold but maybe with a mix of oil and other things.
maybe im crazy but these r the things i think about at 2:30 in the morning, lol. |

very well, that being to do the will of their owners, big business.
two - the American public could help themselves by changing

Mike... you aren't helping the public by keeping them addicted. It is like a junkie begging for another hit. Are you doing the junkie a favor by giving them more drugs? The junkie might think you are. You do them a favor when you cut them off from their drug supply and put them in rehab.
This is really how you could look at this oil situation. As long as we keep hunting high and low for new ways to stay dependent on oil we will never get off of it. The only way to make this work is to make it hurt. Gas needs to become painfully expensive and people will start to come up with alternative forms of transportation and alternative energy sources. We are the laziest country on the planet when it comes to this because we've had the cheapest gas (excluding places like Iraq where it was damn near free).
Lets focus our efforts on getting off of oil and not focusing our efforts on staying on oil.

Simple fact is, our GDP is significantly higher than any other country because of cheap oil/gas. That's how we roll. We get shit done because we aren't constrained by oil/gas. Instead of thinking of it as a drug, think of it as oxygen for the country. We gotta have it to keep doing what we've been doing. |

the problem is not our reliance on oil...its our reliance on foreign oil.
the problem is also looking at it as a drug that we r addicted to. people would gladly switch over to cleaner forms of energy if it were cheap and as affective as its fossil fuel counterpart. unfortunately, its not and big business/politicians r doing little to make it cheaper. sure its easy if ur rich but when u make poverty line money, its impossible and big business/politicians r choking them out of their "oxygen" so that they cant even function. |

If the price of oil keeps going up as it likely will and gas goes over $5 and $6 a gallon we are going to really need to rethink how we live and how we build our cities and towns. We are going to have to live more like Europeans where public transportation is the norm and you have many daily requirements like grocery stores within walking distance. We may have to plan many small villages within cities. You should be able to function comfortably without a car. In this country trying to do so is like filing your taxes while getting a prostate exam.

thats how the town i live in is set up...almost everything within walking distance. if not, we have pretty good public transportation. though i think the best public transportation goes to telluride colorado. they have an 8 person gondola that connects mountain village on one side of the mountain with the town of telluride after going up over the whole mountain. the greatest thing is that its free. talk about a great ride to work in the morning...or just going to the grocery store. |
