I absolutely agree with the Democrats on this one. You can't allow a couple of corporations to control the entire US economy and since we are severely dependent on cars and trucks that is exactly how it is. A few companies control our economy. They profit from higher prices so they have no incentive to open a single additional refinery even if it causes great harm to the economy. What do they care? They are making their profits.
Just look at the refineries as utilities and a vital part of the day to day operation of this country. We'd be absolutely justified in taking them over since the companies that own them have shown complete contempt towards the American people.

im ok with them owning refineries. im telling u, we should let the gov drill in all of these off shore sites and start paying back that national debt. |

Just as long as I don't have to schedule my trips to the pump 2 weeks in advance.
This is after all the US Government we're talking about. The word "efficient" might as well be Greek to them.
Remember the Simpson's episode where the IRS took over Krusty Burger?
