Prius Outdoes Hummer in Environmental Damage

Quote From Source:

The Toyota Prius has become the flagship car for those in our society so environmentally conscious that they are willing to spend a premium to show the world how much they care. Unfortunately for them, their ultimate ‘green car' is the source of some of the worst pollution in North America; it takes more combined energy per Prius to produce than a Hummer.

I have no clue to the merit of this, but it's interesting reading.

I've heard this before, the overall energy costs to produce and drive (per the life of the car) is greater for the hybrids than regular cars. Not sure where I heard that, but I have heard that.

It isn't about the cost of energy but the TYPE of energy that is the issue to me. How clean is the energy? That is what really matters.

I've been looking for good data on this for a while. Will keep searching. Did find this page -

Claims these values for manufacture.

Quote From Source:

* Hummer H2: 200.717 mmBTU
* Toyota Prius: 113.322 mmBTU
* Toyota Highlander: 107.133 mmBTU
* Toyota Highlander Hybrid: 155.18 mmBTU

And this for running energy.

* Toyota Highlander: 6,400, 726.4 mmBTU
* Toyota Highlander Hybrid: 5,424, 615.593 mmBTU
