There's been rumors, speculation, and heresay by automotive
journalists. There's been hoping, begging, longing and pleading by American smart fans. Today, it's finally official - the smart car is headed to the United States.

Quote From Source:
In a press release issued today, the company has announced that
beginning in 2008, the successor to the smart fortwo, i.e. the new
smart fortwo, will be made available in the U.S. in three models.
Already sold in 37 different markets, the American smart will feature
the same trademark elements that make the European version so unique,
including the tridion safety cell, ESP, and a number of airbag systems.

----The Auto Channel

Now a kid in one of my classes said his mom dosent want him driving a smart car because he could be crushed.

When you look at the size of that car you can understand why.

Can you do me a favor? When posting a story please use the source tags around what you are quoting. Also be sure to include credit to the original story by including a link to it. Quotes should also be limited to no more than 3 paragraphs which looks like you did good on.

Code:

[source]quote from news story goes here[/source]

Source: News Agency Name, etc
Source URL: Link to story

That keeps your post within the fair use provision of the U.S. copyright laws. If you could edit your post with those changes it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I've seen cars like that in Europe. Where my mom lives is a pizza delivery place that uses strange looking 2 seater vehicles. I swear you can fit two of those in one parking spot.

I've seen one here in Fort Worth Texas. Would be nice for crowded parking spaces.

Anybody know what the costs of these things are?

How much will a smart vehicle cost?

We are happy to announce that pricing for the smart fortwo has been determined. The smart fortwo pure will start at $11,590, the smart fortwo passion coupe will start at $13,590 and the smart fortwo passion cabriolet will start at $16,590.

I'm not entirely certain there is $12,000 worth of material there when Tata Motors can build a bigger car for $2500.00. But we shall see.

That's what I was getting at about the Tata, even if the car doesn't meet requirments, the fact that they could even produce a car that cheap tells me they coud build one that could meet US regulations for a lot cheaper than we pay for cars now. Still, $12k for a car in the US isn't bad, especially one that can get 60 mpg (please correct me if I'm wrong about the mileage)

Me too! I drive a Subaru Forester and even it's too small sometimes. At least it gets 28 mpg on the highway, and is still larger than most cars, and has enough power to get up to freeway speeds easy.
