Bush to urge Congress to allow offshore drilling

Quote From Source:
WASHINGTON - President Bush plans to make a renewed push Wednesday to get Congress to end a long-standing ban on offshore oil and gas drilling, echoing a call by GOP presidential candidate John McCain.

Congressional Democrats have opposed lifting the prohibitions on energy development on nearly all federal Outer Continental Shelf waters for more than a quarter-century, including waters along both the East and West coasts.

With oil prices soaring and motorists paying $4 a gallon for gasoline, political pressures have been growing for more domestic oil and gas production.

Yeah, because that's what we need. I mean come on, rather than come up with a plan to reduce our oil consumption, we need to give Bu**sh**s buddies more $$$$.

Indy linked to a vehicle that gets 230 mpg, w/ a prototype that gets 330 mpg. Why not help the american public afford a fleet of high mpg vehicles, and help municipalities implement an infrastructure that can support them, and improve light rail to supplement long haul trucking. No, that would be too logical. Rather, we should just give his buddies free oil to sell to us.

Agreed. I cannot understand why we haven't initiated a nuclear and hydro power building program on the scale of the Apollo moon program. We could be mostly energy independant by 2020 if we had the balls to do it.

And I am completely 100% baffled by McCain's AGW stance and his position on off-shore drilling. They are mutually exclusive.

I doubt McCain really even cares about AGW. It's an election ploy. He's GOP, he's in bed with the Oil execs too.

if obama is elected, the country is doomed. if mccain is elected, the country is doomed. either way, we r screwed. thats why neither ill be getting my vote.

the reason we havent built hydro or nuclear is because the greenies dont like that either. we could be energy independent by 2020 but those who have power to wont do anything about it mainly because they dont truly care about the people they r representing.

i was looking at foxnews polls where they combine something like 5 major polls to come up with theirs. congresses approval rating was something like 17%. i wonder if its ever been that low. sadly, were not doing anything to vote these same people out of office.

I dunno, Obama + Increased Dem Majority in Congress + Gore in any influencial position scres me. McCain scares me far, far worse, just by himself. Over taxation for gas, or more war. Maybe the warmists will finally convince this country to get over it's addiction to oil. I think they'll more likely bring finacial problems, BUT at least they might push us away from oil. McCain will continue the Iraq war and doom our economy by default.
