Wildfire smoke closes interstates in Florida

Quote From Source:
(CNN) -- Portions of two major interstate highways in northern Florida were closed Saturday as smoke from a huge wildfire blanketed the Lake City area, reducing visibility and making travel hazardous.

Interstate 10 was closed from U.S. 90 in Sanderson, Florida, to U.S. 129 in Live Oak, Florida. Interstate 75 was closed for 136 miles, from Ocala, Florida, to Valdosta, Georgia.

"As a matter of consequence, what happens in these situations is that there is gridlock over there," said Col. Christopher Knight, director of the Florida Highway Patrol. "So we ask our drivers, if you do not have to travel, to simply stay home or go a different direction."

They should take the warning labels off of everything and let stupidity sort itself out.

Wildfires burn more than 330,000 acres in Florida and Georgia

Quote From Source:
WAYCROSS, Ga. -- Officials closed a 35-mile stretch of Interstate 75 from the Georgia-Florida state line to Lake City, Fla., as well as a 40-mile stretch of Interstate 10, from U.S. 90 to U.S. 129, as a gigantic wildfire approached them Saturday morning.

"It's smoke and fog right now, but the fire is not far,'' said Bill Hamilton with the joint fire information center. He said he expected the road closure to be in effect for at least several hours.

Georgia authorities also closed the southbound lanes on Interstate 75 for about 15 miles, from Valdosta, Ga., to the state line, because of the smoke Saturday afternoon, and warned drivers the northbound lanes might be next because of severely diminished visibility.
