India facing record cold

Delhi reels under cold spell

Quote From Source:
India is reeling under a cold spell which has seen temperatures plummet to near freezing over the past few days. More than 150 people have now died as a result of the cold weather, which has been particularly severe across the northern states of Uttah Pradesh and Kashmir.

Earlier in the week, the Indian capital of Delhi recorded a midday low of 2.3C (36F), making it the coldest January 28th in five years. Temperatures briefly rose to a more tolerable 5C (42F) on Tuesday but there was little respite as they fell the following day.

The cold north westerly winds that have been raging through the city have sparked fears that temperatures could hit zero degrees for the first time this season, and residents beginning are bracing themselves for a period of intensely cold weather. Northern and central parts of India have been experiencing a barrage of cold winds for sometime due to the position of sub tropical jet stream. This fast flowing current of air has allowed colder air to flow into India from the Himalayas.

Avastar.. please make sure to use the source tags when quoting a story. I edited the post to include them.
