Well, I've never done this before, so I don't really know how an introduction post should look. i came here from a link Indy happens to have in his signature on ATS, and found this site. Incidentally, I'm using the same user name, for simplicity but mainly because I'm terrible at thinking up user names.

I happen to be mainly interested in the more earthquake/volcanoes aspect of this site, so thats probably where most of my posts will be.

Hey Apex. Glad you made it over. Don't feel bad. I'm not very original with my user name either. And I can think of a few people who are even less original. lol (looks at DanG)

Thanks DanG, Indy.

How can one be even less original than using the same username twice? Maybe three times?, I suppose that would be less original. Having said that, I quite like this username, but it took me a while to think of it.

I bet I've used my same username on over a dozen sites.

Welcome Apex. Sorry for the delay. Been watching the market crash and trying to find a buy point but I don't think its over yet and we could see things drop to 2004 levels or lower before its over.

Anyhow glad to see a new poster here and I look forward to your posts. We need more posting in the areas you are interested in so it will be great to have you around.

Thanks for the welcomes. Actually I was a bit put off with the idea of posting in year old threads, but I'm sure when there aren't that many it's not much of a problem.

BTW, FatalWishes, great signature.

Are you like me? Will you register that domain and just let it sit there and not do a thing with it until it expires? Then scramble to renew the domain just in case you get the urge to put up a page that says under construction or something? lol

I have domains that I've had for years and haven't done a thing with.

I have one domain that I registered in 2002 that I haven't done anything with.

I'm guilty of that, too. Lately, I've been lazy and just did "admiral" but it's too hard to remember which one it is, so it's back to adding the extra 5 letters.

Welcome Apex.

i have to say though, they are only interests to me, I don't have any actual experience in those fields. In fact, I stopped doing geography after GCSE, for translation to american grades, no idea but it would be year 11 in the english system of school years. Having said that I knew more than we were taught about volcanoes and quakes anyway.

One thing eludes me so far though, does anyone here know what Harmonic tremor is supposed to look like? The wiki article suggests a constant waveform, but doesn't have an example.

This image from the USGS shows the difference in the quakes.

Indy has attached this image:

Basically a constant wave with a low frequency. Well, that one clears that up rather nicely.

I knew jack and squat when I first got here. After a few thousand posts, reading, studying...well I have learned a bunch. No pressure here to learn, its a do at your own speed sort of thing. Find an area of interest, concentrate on finding information then use that area of the forum to concentrate your findings so you can get smarter and take us with you. After a while it gets fun and addictive.

If there is something else that you would like we could make a new section for you as well. We aim to please and enjoy new people with interests of our planet and what is happening.

We don't require that you have experience, just and opinion, gather information, and support your thesis. Or ram it into the ground and form another until eventually you will walk away with a strong opinion like the rest of us. Then you will end up with a home page with a bunch of dribble like I did for the world to see. Some will agree, others will argue but the more you learn, the more you can support your interests and argue with facts.

Either way, we all get to learn and that is the main point of this site. Information.

They should take the warning labels off of everything and let stupidity sort itself out.

Well, thats the sort of thing I've been doing for some time really, I think it's just this site looks like it has more people with actual experience in the fields discussed than I might expect.
