ClimatePatrol.com 3.0 Suggestions

I am going to be making code changes to the site in an effort to make it more user friendly. So I am asking all members for suggestions. Are there things you'd like to see added, changed or removed?

If you are a severe storms enthusiast or forecaster (amateur or professional) I would like to get suggestions as to how you'd like to see content delivered in respect to large storm outbreaks. I want to be able to deliver the news and information in an easy to read format.

Dan, you don't want to see me nude!

Meanwhile on a more productive slant:
How about standard web menu buttons. (ie About Us, Forums, News, Blogs, Donations, Contact)

What do you mean by web menu buttons?

You want to be able to disable things like included images, text formatting, etc?

Nope.

More in line with turning "on" html.

__

Check my "signature".

With "image" identification / presentation "on" and working within the "edit signature" area / field, .... I (just) set it up to show the main image that you see.

(Previously to today, with not being able to do this, I had had this image set up to be accessible where clicking on "www" - my "website", link. - It still is with my not having been able to change it to ..something else, suggested below.)

Beyond this, note the arrow, pointing to the (presently, "invalid") "http:"

What I have done normally where plugging in my signature code information, i.e. "at other sites", is to have (with html being "on" in these cases), supplied a link within my signature - additionally, to a larger graphic, related to the one showing.

This with including the words "wider graphic", immediately following the "arrow".

I've set up the link following to take you to that image, so that you can see .. what "it" is.

http://www.proxigee.com/inclination.gif

(Essentially, each one of this images is germane - as it were, to much of what I would hope to share. - and so I would like to be able to make them more generally accessible.)

__

Apart from this idea, where appreciating the way that you have the general accessibility .. to whatever main direct link that people would want to post, set up, .. in and where considering certain different instances I've found ..that other code manipulation - (simple), is useful.

For example, ..... see next post. (.... as I'm editing this one as I go, and thinking that you might miss what I'm saying .. here, before attaching that example.)

No. (hnt-huh.)

Both.

(Also, as I've suggested above, I've been editing the my initial return-post above. please check it again. Right now I'm working on posting the example that I've mentioned, within it. - please pardon the confusion.)

O.k. (here's the example ..)

First below, is the what checks in with the way you have things set up (currently).

http://cache.climatepatrol.com/1094.png
Original Image: www.proxigee.com

08_030512_031500z_6hrly_glbir.mov - (2.5MB)

(".mov" files, playable with [color=#444444]QuickTime™
.
May be moved along one frame at a time with clicking on controller's fast forward feature button.)

___

This, with compared to ..next, an image (apparently "reduced" somewhat) .. of the way, @ what's showing up - above, i.e. "undigested", would look .. were html able to be switch "on" -- (again) optionally.

http://cache.climatepatrol.com/1095.png
Original Image: www.proxigee.com
<-- (Click on this link to get a clearer picture of the image represented just above.)

Essentially, what I'm forced to do to present this same material / or types similar - arrangement, .. with working with the way that you have things set up, .. is, .....(instead of merely tacking in a link .. making accessible the main sequence identified -- i.e. accessible by clicking on the "name" - only, of the specific sequence identified by its thumbnail image - above), .... --> to tacked in a link - I think, .. which includes my main "storage" URL, i.e. preceding that file designation.

_____

.. adding to this above, ....

(No, I've just re-checked. And apparently, with my having entered what I've suggested above -- my main "storage" URL, preceding the file name to the sequence - in question, .. I get "only" my storage URL. Then - I guess, as I've in fact done here below, I would have to .. follow this up, by then typing the specific "file" designation, directly into the main text.)

http://www.proxigee.com/08_030512_031500z_6hrly_glbir.mov - 08_030512_031500z_6hrly_glbir.mov - (2.5MB)

___

That is, below its main "thumbnail" identifier.

http://cache.climatepatrol.com/1094.png
Original Image: www.proxigee.com

.. as in .....

http://cache.climatepatrol.com/1094.png
Original Image: www.proxigee.com

http://www.proxigee.com/08_030512_031500z_6hrly_glbir.mov - 08_030512_031500z_6hrly_glbir.mov - (2.5MB)

(Hope this makes sense.)

Its still making no sense what you are wanting. Are you talking about being able to simply paste in html and it work?

I apologize. (I've tried to be as explicit as possible.)

Perhaps you could specify what's confusing, more in particularly. (?)

__

Apart from this, where regarding your main question above, ...

I guess. In addition to "typing" in code direction.

With the "html", "off" .. whatever "html" I enter - into the main text field, is not digested.

(only "image" routing. Along with the main BBCode.)

I see.

(I should say ... , next ?)

Just to be clear, this is just a "convenience" thing.

With the "option" turned "on".

I can, .. "do my, thing." - which, includes some posting of animations - with identification, ... which all-together works to better illustrate a particular idea that I might want to suggest, better.

__

Apart from this, relative to your request for suggestions ...relative to the general idea of updating the site toward the that of making it (presumably) constantly more "user - friendly" ..

...An additional suggestion of mine would be .. that you might adjust the listing below the main text composition field, to include "receive an email marking a reply ?" box, .... @ subsequent to a person's initial posting.

It disappears (I've noticed) beyond that initial posting, replaced by "delete this message".

Perhaps there's no room for both, physically.

What I could see about doing is creating a video source tag that has a couple of options. One would be something like this.

Code:

[videosource]http://www.somedomain.com/pathtovideo.avi[/videosource]

Have that be a text link to the video. And then...

Code:

[videosource=http://somedomain.com/pathtoscreenshot.jpg]
[/videosource]

I could have that display an image that is clickable that takes you to the video that would have normally been a text link like in the first example. It would produce an output similar to what you have in the 2nd image.

Oh.

And regarding my main "signature" input, .....

At this point, the "larger graphic" which I'd mentioned - with pointing to above, .. is in fact at this point accessible through my "www" button guy .. below.

So what I can do - perhaps, is to include a succinct note, within my signature - along together with the main image now there, .. pointing to this idea.

(That is, with "deleting" the code information that's included there, "now". -- i.e. the "arrow" and hot words link.)

This, ok. ?

Richard... the videosource tag thing was a hypothetical. I would still have to create it.

As for the signature one thing you can try with the image is to possibly bypass the image cache system. I'm not sure this will work but give it a try.

Use the image dimensions inside the tag. like...

Code:

[img=500x200]http://www.somedomain.com/mypig.jpg[/img]

I can't remember if that gets you around the cache or not. The cache is what causes some problems.
