Photo Album Added

I have added a photo album to the site. You will notice the option in the toolbar at the top. There are (for now) 3 public categories plus your own album. All pics are viewable by the public. Submissions in the main album will require approval before they are displayed. Pics you upload to your album will be immediately viewable. For now there is a 100 pic limit in the personal gallery. Hot linking won't work. That means you cannot use the images on another site. I will be modifying the album code to give you an alternate image link that you will be able to use for hotlinking.

Reasoning:

If a pic is served through the web server it opens a thread that eats maybe 16mb of ram. Its because of all the goodies compiled in the web server. I have a content server running as well and it is a stripped down web server and each thread only eats up 4mb. (estimates). Its much more efficient when it comes to serving files. So for now it is slightly limited.

Ok I have given the pics a real url. For example my url is....

http://images.climatepatrol....04d8718ba1608dee67753e01.jpg

That image is posted in my personal photo album on here. You can do the same with your images. Notice port 8080? It is a different instance of apache. A much more efficient version for lame things like senidng images. Better on the hardware in the long run :-). I will eventually be doing that for the avatar system and file attachment system as well.

http://images.climatepatrol....04d8718ba1608dee67753e01.jpg

is now...

Are we still able to upload pictures here? If so, please do tell. I got a cool picture of a somewhat rare cloud formation.

One thing I would like to see implemented, is the ability to gain points (more so than posts) for images uploaded.

I'll be doing more image uploads than posts, I'm sure.

Good idea.

First I'm putting in a point requirement for posting pics. Just keeps spammers from coming in to upload crap. You easily have more points now than what I have the minimum set to (yeah I'm working on it lol).

Pics will be moderated again to help protect against spam. I'd say almost all will get approved. Just a security thing. I'll probably have it give x number of points for the approved pic and x number of points per view. So the better the pics are the better the points are.

I should have the photo upload module done today. Whether I get the moderator module done today or not remains to be seen. I can go in and manually view the images and approve them until I get this finished. I'll let you know as soon as the upload module is done.

Awesome, can't wait till it's done. You are also setting up a way to set keywords and descriptions to it, so search engines will be able to index it and what not, right?

I'm not sure if you got my msg the other day regarding the image dimensions.

All my images I will upload will be either 800x533(landscape) or 800x1200(portrait)

I could upload the full sized images too. They are 3456x2304  ~3MB in size. I just don't like doing it that way because it takes too long to upload multiple images.

I have it set up where you can enter a description for the image. I don't have keywords set up. The text description alone should do the job for the major search engines since they are driven more by displayed content than meta tags.

I set the limit to 1024x768 or 768x1024. The file size limit is also 2mb.

I'm probably going to keep it that way until I can get to a 2nd phase which will include a flash uploader so you can upload 100mb of pics at one time if you wanted. Or whatever limit we set.

But enough of that for now. Don't want to give away all the secrets :-)

I admit I haven't worked on it today. The day has been a bit messed up. I'll see if I can get anything done on it tomorrow.

Do you think there should be a section for space pictures?

Or just use general, I'm not sure how often I'd personally post space pics. If they're really cool.
