In the year since the Sumatran earthquake sent a Southwest Virginia well sloshing, the well has gained an international reputation for its oscillating antics. The Christiansburg well, whose splish-splashing last December has intrigued scientists from Virginia as well as Oregon, Florida and India, came to statewide attention in 1985 when it recorded a 7-foot fluctuation after a magnitude 8 temblor struck Mexico City.(Potomacnews)

Guatemala's Volcano of Fire erupted on Tuesday, sending rivers of lava down its slopes and a huge cloud of ash and smoke into the sky. About 25,000 local residents were put on alert. Emergency teams said there was no immediate need for evacuations but they might be necessary if there were more eruptions.(Yahoo/Reuters)
