| BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Baton Rouge Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) operations at 101 France Street will end on Saturday, April 8 at 5 p.m. the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will continue their operations at this location through to the close of business on April 13. |

The attached is a ‘By the Numbers' progress update as of April 5, 2006, seven months following Hurricane Katrina and more than six months after Hurricane Rita. T wo of the most intense hurricanes ever recorded during the Atlantic Hurricane Season, both Katrina and Rita intensified to Category 5 storms while in the Gulf Coast before making landfall as Category 3 storms. While Katrina made landfall on Aug. 29, Rita followed almost one month later on Sept. 24. |

Secretary Michael Chertoff also announced the appointment of Vice Admiral Harvey E. Johnson, Jr., as deputy director and chief operating officer of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). |
