In the second quarter of 2007, the German-American solar technology company SolarWorld Group increased sales and earnings in the double digit range. Group sales rose to $247 (previous year: $138.5) million in the second quarter and to $428.6 (previous year: $252.3) million in the first half of the year. Earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) went up by 32 percent to $67.9 (previous year: $51.5) million from April through June and to $115.9 (previous year: $88.2) million in the first half of the year.

Spain -- the world's second leading producer of wind power -- has passed a new law allowing wind parks to be built off its coast. It is predicted that the offshore wind parks will generate between 2,000 and 3,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity by 2020. The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Rocky Mountain Region awarded a $6.9M contract on May 29, 2007 to SunEdison for the design and construction of a solar park at the Denver Federal Center (DFC). The park will consist of photovoltaic arrays located on a six-acre site adjacent to 6th Avenue in Lakewood, Colorado. Construction is expected to start during late summer/early fall of 2007, with electric generation beginning mid-December 2007.
