Exxon Mobil Corp., the tanker's owner, is battling a judgment to pay $2.5 billion in punitive damages for the Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989. On Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, it asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review the lower court's ruling, according to the Anchorage Daily News. Four of the nine U.S. Supreme Court justices must vote in favor of granting Exxon's petition for the case to proceed any further.  Plaintiffs in the long-running case surrounding the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil disaster are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to restore a $5 billion punitive fine against Exxon Mobil Corp, a petition filed with highest U.S. court shows.

An Atlantic puffin appears to imitate a decoy by standing on one leg, Monday July 9, 2007, on Eastern Egg Rock, Maine. Decoys were used to lure the gregarious birds ashore after they were re-introduced to the island following a 100-year absence.  It doesn't seem to matter to one puffin waddling over to join another of the birds that his chosen companion is a one-legged, wooden decoy. Puffins love company.
