SSE Announces Renewable Plans (View Original Story)

Having completed its acquisition of Airtricity Holdings Limited, Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has completed a review of its renewables plans and investments. When it entered into the agreement to acquire Airtricity, SSE said it expected to have over 3500 megawatts (MW) of operating renewable capacity in the UK and Ireland in 2013. However, following review SSE now expects this to be around 4000 MW, doubling its current capacity.

Horizon Wind Energy announced the signing of a repeat order with Suzlon Wind Energy Corporation for 200 megawatts (MW) of wind turbine capacity. The original contract called for delivery of 400 MW of turbine capacity from 2008 - 2009 and now has been expanded to include an additional 200 MW in 2009.

EnerNOC, Inc. announced a five-year contract with the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) to provide demand response capacity in the Greater Toronto Area, the Waterloo Region and the City of Hamilton. The contract, which falls under OPA's Demand Response 3 (DR3) load reduction program, enables EnerNOC to deliver up to 25 megawatts of capacity.

enXco, an EDF EN Company, announces the completion of development and construction of the 143 kW solar project located on the grounds of the Black River Farm equestrian training facility in Ringoes, New Jersey in Hunterdon County. The project consists of a combination of 63 kW roof mounted and 80 kW ground mounted Evergreen Solar PV panels. Additionally, it features Sunflow Monitor, a web-based monitoring system provided by Noveda Technologies. The solar project will generate electricity for the farm on a net metering basis. enXco serves as the owner, financier, and co-developer. Atlantic Solar Assets, a subsidiary of Clean Energy Holdings co-developed the project with Vanguard Energy Partners, LLC / New Jersey Solar Solutions as installer.

SunWind developed the freeway capable Windmobile, a wind-electric hybrid vehicle. It was the cover story for Popular Science in November, 1976. Invented by the late James Amick, a Professor of Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Michigan, the prototype proved capable of cruising on the highway at speeds up to 65 mph, using wind energy alone.

United States Senators Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and John Ensign (D-NV) have introduced the Clean Energy Stimulus Act of 2008. The bill extends the commercial Investment Tax Credit (ITC) for eight years and removes the utility exemption.
