SSE Announces Renewable Plans (View Original Story)

Having completed its acquisition of Airtricity Holdings Limited, Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has completed a review of its renewables plans and investments. When it entered into the agreement to acquire Airtricity, SSE said it expected to have over 3500 megawatts (MW) of operating renewable capacity in the UK and Ireland in 2013. However, following review SSE now expects this to be around 4000 MW, doubling its current capacity.

U.S. Geothermal Inc. announced that it entered into an agreement with Michael B. Stewart and Empire Geothermal Power LLC to acquire a 3.6-megawatt (MW) operating geothermal power plant, approximately 28,358 acres (44.3 square miles) of geothermal energy leases and certain ground water rights all located north of Reno, Nevada. The power plant includes four binary cycle units, a wet cooling tower and nine geothermal wells developed in a proven geothermal reservoir.

EnerNOC, Inc. announced a five-year contract with the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) to provide demand response capacity in the Greater Toronto Area, the Waterloo Region and the City of Hamilton. The contract, which falls under OPA's Demand Response 3 (DR3) load reduction program, enables EnerNOC to deliver up to 25 megawatts of capacity.

United States Senators Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and John Ensign (D-NV) have introduced the Clean Energy Stimulus Act of 2008. The bill extends the commercial Investment Tax Credit (ITC) for eight years and removes the utility exemption.
