Researchers boost yields of rice-waste biofuel (View Original Story)

| Chinese scientists have developed a new method that dramatically increases the yield of a clean biogas fuel from rice straw.
China is the world's largest rice producer and the industry results in 230 million tonnes a year of surplus rice 'straw' — the stem and leaves left behind after harvesting. Farmers often burn the straw, increasing pollution and carbon dioxide emissions (see Stalk burning fuels China pollution woes).

Masdar plunges $2 billion into solar PV market (View Original Story)

| Masdar today announced it will commit $2 billion to start a global production line of thin-film solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, with the aim of reaching 1GW a year by 2014.
Masdar is a company set up by the Abu Dhabi government in January, to invest the oil-rich country's capital in “future energy” projects, such as renewables.
