India's government has proposed setting up a special force of forest rangers to protect the country's dwindling tiger population from poachers. Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, that the government would give the National Tiger Conservation Authority a grant of 500 million rupees (US$13.15 million, Euro 8.67 million) to "raise, arm and deploy" a Tiger Protection Force.   The Indian government plans to spend more than $13 million establishing a special ranger force to protect the country's endangered tigers, following pressure from international conservationists to save the wild cats.
