3TIER, has launched its REmapping the World initiative by unveiling the a global wind map, which people will be able to view for free online. The map provides global wind data at an 80 meter (m) height over a 15 kilometer area for a single year.

SUEZ Renewable Energy NA (SRENA), has announced that an affiliate has signed a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement with New Brunswick Power Distribution and Customer Service Corporation (NB Power). Under the agreement, the company will supply electricity to NB Power from a new wind farm project that SRENA will construct, own, and operate. The contract revenue over the life of the agreement is expected to be approximately CDN $500 million [US $506 million].

Scott, I was informed by the lead engineer for the NY Power Authority that our hydropower systems like Niagara Falls operate at efficiencies over 95%. If this is true, wouldn't it make sense to use wind powered electrical generation to pump water to elevated sources so the energy could be provided steadily from this source in times of low wind volume? -- Tim G., Buffalo, NY
