| Australian Broadcasting Corporation: The Queensland Government has moved to step up renewable energy for remote areas by releasing land for geothermal exploration. Tenders are being called for land around Longreach, Roma, Gladstone, Charters Towers, Georgetown and Aurukun. Geothermal energy is created by pumping water onto hot rocks deep underground, the steam released is used to generate electricity.
